About the role
In the Natural Resources Scientist role, you will get to work both in the office and in the field. Some projects may require travel throughout WA and northern OR, though primarily in western WA. You would be successful in this position if you’re organized, able to work on multiple projects simultaneously that cover a wide range of disciplines, can manage your time efficiently, and ask questions when you are unsure of something.
You would be responsible for

Supporting project management staff with site assessments and feasibilities; ordinary high water mark determinations; aquatic and terrestrial habitat surveys and assessments, population studies

Supporting field research efforts
-
Technical writing and document development using MS Office
-
Preparation of permit application documents related to NEPA/SEPA, Federal CWA, ESA compliance, State Hydraulic Code, SMA/GMA
-
Data collection and organization, including GIS mapping, Excel
Required Skills and Experience
-
BA/BS degree in biological sciences
-
1-3 years’ professional experience
-
Familiarity with aquatic and coastal environments of the Pacific Northwest
-
Identification of local plant, fish and wildlife and their habitat
-
Flexibility to work long hours in inclement conditions and traverse various terrains
-
Enthusiasm and willingness to learn and develop
-
Strong written/oral communication skills
-
Ability to perform effectively in a small team environment
-
Strong time management skills and ability to meet project deadlines and budgets
-
Around 20-30% travel to project sites
-
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
Desired Skills and Experience

Prior experience in the consulting field

Master’s degree in biological sciences

Wetland delineation certification with training on the WA State Wetland Rating System

Experience with regulatory requirements at the Federal, State, and Local levels for projects in the aquatic environment

SCUBA certification
